Summary
We are seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our dynamic team at United Pipe & Steel. In this role, you will play a vital part in managing HR functions that support our mission of delivering high-quality products to our customers. This position is essential for fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring compliance with HR policies. Reporting to the HR Manager, this person will be heavily involved with employee relations, benefits, leave administration, policy review, and will play a critical role in many other key HR functions. A strong communicator with the ability to speak Spanish is preferred.
This is an on-site role based in the 77041 area of Houston.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Handles employee relations / counseling. Communicates appropriate responses to employees and HR-related issues, requests, questions, and concerns to quickly resolve.
- Fosters a unified culture that inspires excellent performance and strong employee engagement to support our core values.
- Ensures HR legal compliance, such as with USCIS Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification; will also periodically audit legal documents.
- Assists with recruitment and onboarding/ offboarding as needed.
- Assists with Leave of Absence administration. Tracks absences and works with and supports managers and employees throughout the process.
- Maintains and processes all unemployment notices and potential charges on time and efficiently. Attends unemployment hearings when necessary.
- Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to improve the efficiency of the HR department and services performed.
- Maintains personnel files and HRIS records, to include data entry, compilation, and analysis of reports from the database.
- Assists in facilitating training programs such as new hire orientation, benefits orientation, and employee recognition programs.
- Processes mail, assists, or prepares correspondence as requested.
- Assists in monitoring the performance evaluation program.
- Facilitate annual benefit enrollment communications to employees as requested.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment and benefits laws and regulations across multiple states.
- Helps develop department goals, objectives, and systems.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
Required & Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field and/or equivalent proven experience; 3 years preferred. Multi-state desired.
- Strong knowledge of HR practices, labor laws, and regulations.
- Excellent conflict management and communication skills.
- Proficiency with HRIS, payroll & timekeeping systems
- HR Certification credential is a plus
- Occasional travel out-of-state.
- Bilingual / Spanish is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Job Type:
- Full-time
- May develop into a hybrid position once trained; 3-4 days in the office is required.
- 8 AM – 5 PM
