Rigid Metal Conduit vs. IMC vs. EMT

All three are galvanized steel electrical conduit used to protect and route wiring. Rigid metal conduit has the heaviest wall and is threaded, making it the choice for exposed, outdoor and high-impact locations. IMC has a thinner wall and lighter weight, but is still threaded and is rated for many of the same applications. EMT is thin-wall steel tubing joined with set-screw or compression fittings, and is the most common choice for indoor commercial work.
